The group will meet in The Piggeries at the start of each session. Weather and accessibility permitting, we will be exploring the garden, gaining inspiration from the colours, structure and textures of plants and their surroundings.

We may do some sketching, mobile phone photography and notetaking whilst outdoors and then develop our findings inside. You will be making a seasonal art journal and if you wish you can also create individual pieces to celebrate the joys of the garden.

This course is being run by Sally Jane Webster of Wild Practice Arts, who is an artist, wild writer and creative facilitator with a passion for encouraging recovery and rejuvenation – both for nature and people. She lived in rural East Anglia as a child, loved art and recalls always having a deep feeling for the land, plants and creatures, as well as for fellow humans.

She developed her own creative interests via a degree in Fine Art, specialising in Social Sculpture. Her artwork bears witness to our absolute entanglement and relationship with the web of life – the joy of it – as well as the sorrow and responsibilities.

This is reflected in her use of diverse materials and methods employed with playful exploration – weaving, sewing, scratching, marking, painting, tearing, tying, and untangling – resulting in re-marking, re-making and re-solving.

She makes sculptural items with plant material salvaged from gardens or grown sustainably. She also enjoys repairing and reusing old textiles. Having retrieved materials from river and sea shorelines – ghost net, plastic debris, driftwood – Sally creates unusual containers and woven objects.

Sally welcomes opportunities to collaborate creatively on environmental and nature-inspired themes, including community projects, private commissions, and the provision of workshops, teaching and individual mentoring.
