Art in the Mansion ~ Frances Payne
August 25 - September 7
An exhibition of exquisite watercolours and sketches of plants and insects.
Aberglasney is the perfect setting for my paintings and 2017 will be my 13th exhibition in the Mansion.
I am very lucky to live in the lovely rural countryside of a west Carmarthenshire farm and all year round this provides me with a never ending source of interesting subject matter. The hedgerows in particular are such a diverse and wonderful habitat for our native wild flowers and the insects that live on them and I spend many hours out and about with my sketchbooks recording the natural history I find.
In my own garden, roses are a real favourite and I love to paint the old fashioned varieties.
Before starting a painting I make many drawings of flowers in their natural settings and over the years I have built up a large reference of sketches which helps in understanding the nature and growth of plants – some of these sketches will be on display alongside the finished paintings.
I will be in the mansion every day of my exhibition (except Saturday 2nd September) with my paintbox and brushes and am happy to answer any questions.
