Art in the Mansion ~ Charlotte Leadbeater
September 28 - October 3
I am very pleased to be showing my work at Aberglasney Gardens, linking the old association with its early days, in 1999, when a small Russian ballet company from Swansea, came to enjoy the environment, with performance.
My new work with the dancers will be on show, as well as the musicians I have been privileged to meet and draw, during the acclaimed music festivals in Llandeilo. Music has always been a great love for me, to sing, to perform, and as a solace when I was ill last year. The big musical compositions on Brahm's Requiem, where I sang soprano under conductor Gorden Kilby, will be in the main gallery, and are linked to the movement in music, as well as finding colour that reflect the timbre of the piece, as Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee did in their compositions. Klee used nature as the source material too. I find the rhythms of dance & music reflect the sea and sky.
Finally during the year I had cancer, I found I only had the energy to work with my digital workpad that my children had given me, so you will also find the pieces reflecting the chemotherapy I was having. My family, flowers and the sea meant a lot to me then and now.
In celebration of her exhibition at Aberglasney, Charlotte will be giving a talk in the main hall of the Mansion on Saturday 28th September at 10.30am. Following the talk, the exhibition will be opened with drinks served from around midday. All are welcome!
